EmmaJoe's Warm-Up I - performed Live at EmmaJoe's Coffeehouse, in Marquette Michigan USA ... This began life as a sound check. I was hired by Tom Laverty to record his salsa band at EmmaJoe's Coffeehouse for a Saturday night gig. That Saturday afternoon, as i was setting up, a motley crew of Musicians filtered in and we did a sound check. Once you start jamming you can't stop, so (after the actual first jam, which didn't get recorded), i threw the Tascam CD-RW2000 into record and went up and jammed -- playing the bass line on a keyboard. That following Monday night, at my harp gig, i played the recording back and layered my flute into the mix -- Live again, of course -- with some of the same folk there at my gig, digging the reprise from Saturday afternoon. Dylan might've even been pulling espresso that night (he was a Baristo at EJ's). So, i'm playing the bass line (which set the groove), and the melody. Another self-duet -- but with a great jam-band -- 'The EmmaJoe's Coffeehouse Orchestra' as i've sometimes humourously called us. I can't remember who all were playing, but Dylan (of Nine Volt Hammer) was playing the electric piano part with me on the keyboard (as i was playing a bass part; i haven't played bass guitar since high school), and Robert was doing an excellent job playing drums. This was 3 or 4 years ago -- i think the last year EmmaJoe's was open. {I can't find the Master -- which has the notes.} The only other jam i can find from this session is 'Warm-up V' which i'll post next week. I'll try to find the rest, but this was a few years ago. I'll also try to find the names of all the Musicians so i can give credit where credit is due. {If you're in this recording, please, get in touch with me.} By the way, check out the Ephemera podcast -- where i plan to post some campfire recordings. I'm not exactly sure what i'm going to do, but i'm thinking of keeping this feed populated with performance dates, and put campfire song-swaps and the like in the 'found sound' Ephemera podcast.
